Soiree

About

Soiree is the celebration of the emancipation of slaves in Guyana. Dance is a key feature in this celebration. This celebration encompases a mixture of the African religion, drumming, chanting, and shanto dancing. It is used to evoke the spirits of the African ancestry. In this dancing, the people move to the beat of the Guyanese shanot music. Another popular part of this celebration is square dancing. This celebration has many connections to Africa that can be seen.
